Coo coo ka-choo, how do you do?
It's live. That's the first step down, right? It feels super weird thinking someone could actually read these blog posts now. Who was I writing them to before? Well, myself mostly, since my memory is really bad LOL. But yes! The first step! The site is live and anyone can visit! Now to get everything fixed up... again!
I haven't exactly posted anywhere that my store is up and running. I planned to do that most of last week, but with a ton of "IRL" setbacks and site reworking, I only had a couple hours Thursday to even begin taking photos! I just grabbed whatever products were around me at the time and totally winged the photo box. I figured since the site had to go online, who knows if some mystery person decided to check it out three seconds in?! I had to have some pictures of something up.
I know you're probably saying, "Rusty, why set such a weird deadline and can't you just push it to the first?" No! I can not! Well, yes, technically. Let's call it a soft launch then. Right now, my inventory is accurate to what's on hand at the moment... in some container... probably the ends aren't woven in... Regardless, if you do end up purchasing something over the course of me continuing to put the site together, it is finished and I can get it to you! I wouldn't add it to the inventory if it didn't exist!
So, what's in the inventory at the time of writing? Let's see here...
- Hats.
- A few cowls.
- Fingerless gloves.
Man, that's a boring line up! I don't even have any bulky bees or whales! Every time I look around at stores and business or whatever, they say find your niche. I'm every grandma since probably prehistoric times making accessories for their grandkids! Not even a cool grandma who can make a dragon! I have many dragon patterns! I have not tested any of them! I keep fighting with myself over it. One half of me is saying that I need to test out these patterns to see if I'd even want to make more than one. The other half is saying imagine how cool a whole lineup of unique, fancy dragons would look! Then I get caught in an infinite loop of daydreaming about the dragons and despairing at the difficulty of the pattern.
I feel the something I should've done is curb the way my brain will hype up the future without thinking about how I will even get to that point. Like, just recently I was toying with the idea from a few months ago. Not the Amiibo blanket thing, but the adoptables again. Like, you don't even know the extent of how enormous this is. I have multiple files, multiple places, of multiple types of 100k+ characters. Like, I have Google Docs and Microsoft Word crashing amounts of characters. I warned myself back in October to not get "locked in my own head thinking of ideas" and I just kinda, went in a big circle. I haven't generated any more since, but it's more fun to think about collectible plushes instead of actually sitting down and figuring out the logistics of how to make the plushes. I can make little naked faceless bodies for days and I did! But that pattern did not come with instructions for making clothes for your new character!
So, yes, to curb my wild imagination, we've got really boring stuff in stock right now. I've left a couple out of stock options up as a preview of things I plan to make. Right now, there's the Melon Slice Keychain, Waffle Hat/Cowl and the Stained Glass Hat/Cowl. I figured they'd be the next easiest to make, but they are all things I've never attempted before. The eeveelutions, chibi or regular size, are way too much work to start off with, if offer more than one at all. I also want to try making foldable bags, but they seem like they take a really long time too!
Maybe that's why a lot of crochet influencers have large periods of just posting pictures of unrelated things. It's just a little disheartening seeing all the "What I crocheted in 2023"s and they're all time consuming projects! Are we faking doing them or what?! I don't get it! I made a handful of hats and gloves, not forty sweaters!
