Coo coo ka-choo, how do you do?
Wow, last week's post feels totally incoherent. Sorry about that. This post will be about the melon keychains too, so let's get into the details more thoroughly this time. I've been making only these for the past week and I haven't tested any other patterns!
First things first, I probably won't add eyes to my melon keychains. I know I could technically just buy larger eyes that don't fall through the stitches, but even these tiny eyes make the inside of the keychain bulky. The expectation I have is that the keychains will be added to items like bookbags or purses. If the safety eyes pop out from me continuing to crochet, they will not last a second being bashed against stuff. I also think the size of hook and size of yarn I'm using will make keeping safety eyes in difficult. I could embroider them on, but since they are only five dollars, I don't want to do any extra work on them. It's nice to only have to close up the top instead of sewing in extra ends.
Second, if you plan to make these keychains too, don't do what I did and buy one pounds for them! x) The amount of yarn they take up is so tiny, I have so much extra! I love it because I love making too much of one thing. It's relaxing doing the same thing over and over. If you're only making a couple for yourself or some friends, I'd definitely recommend going the simply soft route rather than one pound. If not that, find some good yarn that has more variations of oranges and yellows LOL.
Third, I know that some, if not most, of these melons are not eaten like a watermelon. I don't think I've ever seen a triangular cantaloupe slice! To me, melon flesh is just mushy nothing when ripe! Plus, I'm sure the melons that I haven't seen or eaten in real life are also not prepared the same way. I know! If anyone is going to say, "This fruit doesn't work like this." I know! Suspend your disbelief, please!
Between making endless watermelons, I'm going to try out some fandom related merch! I've been debating on what character to cosplay this year and I think I want to try cosplaying Beatrix from Slime Rancher again. I tried back in 2019, having started only a couple weeks before the convention, so I want to get a head start this time. Point being, the slimes I've had drafted since I made this store are the exact ones I'm planning to use! The only problem I have is the pattern is for the base slimes and, if you've ever played Slime Rancher, the main mechanic is combining types to make larger hybrid slimes. I have tabby and I have rock, but I do not have rock tabby! Instead of being discouraged, I need to make them myself! I probably have more than enough crochet experience to modify the pattern by combining traits. First thing I need to do, though, is actually start trying them out.
